Last week we reported strong first quarter results. Thanks to your commitment we earned $3 billion during the quarter driven by robust client activity across our businesses. Our financial strength enabled us to continue investing in creating value for our clients and for our shareholders, and I'm pleased that we announced a 3% increase to our dividend. In addition to highlighting our strong financial results, during the analysts' call I also spoke about our Purpose. Investors are increasingly aware that Purpose-driven organizations are more successful than their peers, and it was one of the dominant themes at the World Economic Forum in Davos. In practically every conversation I had with CEOs at Davos, the subject of public trust and the role of corporate citizenship came up. It's not just about social responsibility, or giving back. True Purpose is about cementing an organization's role in its community, including the immensely important contribution made by employees, and being there for the long haul. This is what RBC Future Launch is all about. Over the coming days, Canadian colleagues will notice a nation-wide campaign for Future Launch online and on TV. We want to raise awareness and create a national conversation around the challenges that young people face in the new world of work. This will echo the debates that we're already having inside RBC, like this great thread on RBC Connect. As I've mentioned many times before, in order to achieve our Purpose, we also have to have a culture that is fit for the future. | | |
Over the past few months, I've seen tremendous work being done across the globe to help position us for the future. We're testing new concepts, getting solutions to our clients faster, and making decisions quicker as One RBC. Many of you provided feedback through a recent survey to track how we are succeeding in changing the way we work. You told us that we've made progress in encouraging people to speak their minds and to listen to others. But you also told us we still need to do a better job at stopping doing things that don't align to our priorities, as well as simplifying our work. This remains a top priority for me and the leadership team - we can't afford to lose momentum. We will be asking all of you for your comments on these areas and others in the Employee Opinion Survey, so watch out for more info over the coming weeks. Thank you again for a great quarter and your ongoing dedication to our clients | | | Winning as One RBC: Q1 highlights | | Sustainable growth Growing across businesses More » | | Exceptional client experience Cards growth and the top app in Canada More » | | Best talent LIFTing performance to new heights More » | | Simplify.
